In Chapters 21-24 we find out about Darrin's near miss with death in Tanzania. Without his friend Rod and Dr. Scott Greenbaum, it appears Darrin would have been toast. The experience leaves lingering questions, though, about how Darrin had opioids in his system and needed "narcolax." These questions are answered differently by each of Rod, Tina, Stacy and Scott Greenbaum. Since the time I wrote this book ten years ago, opioids have become a scourge in this country. Between 2010 to 2016, the number of overdose deaths from opioids doubled from about 21,000 to 42,000 in the United States. Now most EMTs in the country carry Naloxone to reverse the effects of opioid overdoses like Darrin's.
Of course, an important point is lost on some of the characters, but not on the FBI investigators. That point is how Darrin ended up in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and the connection it had with the twin al Qaeda bombing in Nairobi, Kenya. Included here is a helpful map of this region of East Africa.
